“The goal of education is not to increase the amount of knowledge but to create the possibilities for a child to invent and discover, to create men who are capable of doing new things.” Jean Piaget
The children of today , or the millennials , as they are known , have no memory of a world without the World Wide Web, cell phones, or personal computers. They are plugged into some device or the other since they were toddlers, so parenting and teaching the new generation brings its own set of challenges.
We ensure that the lessons are taught by enthusiastic teachers, who will engage and interest the pupils. In this way we give pupils a desire to learn more, take on fresh challenges and build their self-confidence.
In addition we offer a wide range of activities, which enhances the pupils experience of the school and serves to further develop their awareness of the value of working together for the good of the community.
We need to build resilience within our pupils so that they can learn to overcome problems that are bound to confront them. We find that a focus on learning and how we do it significantly contributes to the wellbeing of the children.
A teacher should make a child ready to face the society, inculcate moral habits in the child and thus, assist in all round development.
At Kumarans, we have a strong belief in preparing the child for life and not just for a living. So enrichment activities are conducted to polish the ‘rough diamonds’ to shine with splendour and brilliance. Our students have done well in all fields, and have kept the Kumarans flag flying high. We owe this to our late Director , Smt Meenakshi Balakrishnan, whose vision and hard work has helped the school reach great heights.
In the ICSE stream, project work , as part of the curriculum provides a wonderful opportunity for the child to inculcate creative thinking and originality. It encourages children to do research work and get into the habit of finding out and not just learning.
Parents have been our constant support at every step and endeavour. It is their involvement and encouragement that we rely on for the unfolding of our future dreams.
We are highly indebted to our school Management and thank Mrs Deepa Sridhar for her constant support and encouragement.
Every child is special, and we at Kumarans provide a congenial learning atmosphere for the child to grow and benefit.
I conclude with the words of Nelson Mandela “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.
